Research: Artist Roadmap

Projecting Out Past Graduation

Questions:

1. If you could project out past graduation, what is your overall career goal?

  • Would you like to work in AAA game development.

  • Would you prefer a midsize team?

  • Would you like a smaller team?

  • Would you like to be on an Indy team?

  • Would you like to work for a simulation company?

  • Would you like to work in the theme park industry?

Right now I’m leading towards immersive experience and architecture. I want to be able to use my skills to translate
digital objects into real world spaces, objects, etc. I enjoy fabrication a lot and being able to get into a job that has
a pipeline for 3d printing would lean into that well.

After that though, my overall goal is to eventually teach after having some experience in the industry. I would
preferably be a college professor, but am open to considering other options as well. In order to teach though I actually
need to be good at what I do and have some industry experience.

2. If you could project out into starting your career, what sounds the most appealing to you?

  • Would you like to work as a Character Artist?

  • Would you like to work as an Environment Artist?

  • Would you like to work as a Hard Surface Artist?

  • Would you like to work as a Weapons/Prop Artist?

  • Would you like to work as an Vehicle Artist?

  • Would you like to work as an Lighter?

Environment and props sound the most appealing to me right now.
I like creating environments that evoke a certain emotion from the viewer or tell a story.
I also enjoy spending a lot of times on props during the sculpting process. If I could have a job that was just spending
a lot of time making props in Zbrush that would be nice, but I feel like that is a thing of the past honestly.

3. What are some of the top companies that you are interested in working for?

  • EA, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Iron Galaxy, ect.

Universal, AOA, GO2 Production, and Falcon Creative are a few I have researched. I would love to stick to
companies in the area because I like Orlando and want to be close to my family. If I had to move,
I would go the environment route and look into companies in Texas like Bethesda and iD Software.

Research: Top Artistic Influences

Resident Evil 7

Annihilation

I believe the main focus of these is color, mood, and atmosphere. I draw a lot from horror media because it often feels more tangible to me. I enjoy recreating the dirt and grime a lot. Many of these pieces of media have an emphasis on creating an oppressive or immersive atmosphere through choices such as lighting, composition, etc. In pieces that are not horror, the choices of lighting and color serve to draw the viewer's eye inward still. I gravitate towards dim or low lighting scenarios because I believe they provide more opportunity to create contrast, mood, and atmosphere.
